    E Bike Rules

As warmer weather brings more students out on e-bikes, it’s important we all work together to keep our community safe. We've partnered with local safety advocates to share this helpful E-Bike Safety Brochure which provides essential tips and guidelines for students and families.

Please take a moment to review and discuss these safety practices at home. Together, we can help prevent accidents before they happen and ensure everyone rides responsibly this season.

AES students love the AMS Recess Heroes

AES students are not holding out for heroes. They’ve already got them. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, about a dozen Aspen Middle School students give up their recess to become “Recess Heroes” at Aspen Elementary School. They play with the younger students and provide extra eyes on the playground in an effort to keep everyone safe. No, they don’t wear capes, jokes 7th grader Bashar Akkad, who helped jump-start the group by bringing the idea to the school principal.Last school year, a few middle school students helped out during AES recess.“This year, we made it a little more formal,” said Shea Robinson, AES SEL Coordinator. For their commitment, Ute Mountaineering and Paradise Bakery  graciously donated gift cards to recognize the middle schoolers during their volunteer contributions, Robinson said.Recess Heroes is good for the elementary students and for the middle school students.“The elementary students always get excited to see the middle schoolers. They usually come running when they come out. The interactions are great to see for both groups!”Bashar said he enjoys the time at the elementary school. He is, he said, a big brother who likes to hang out with his kid sister.“I think they (AES students) like it – every day, they ask the counselor if we are coming back,” he said. “It’s fun. I really like helping them.”Bashar is known to get a pick-up game of soccer going and he even challenges the students to a dance competition. Some of the Recess Heroes said they like the time away from their own recess. “I like kids and I like hanging out with my sister and her friends,” said Teagan Kidd, 7th grader. Recently, Teagan helped the little students slide down a snow bank. “They just love to play around. I think they are sweet.”
